Environmental
Upper Atmospheric Reporting
Tiny disposable Ceramitron mass sensors are ideal for remote monitoring of greenhouse gases (methane, CO2, NOx, …) in the upper atmosphere using weather balloons equipped with radiosondes. A small MS sensor in the payload could significantly enhance the temperature, humidity, pressure and wind velocity information collected by the 80,000 balloons that are released annually (only 20% of which are ever recovered!) Units would require only integrated getter vacuum pumps for a mission that is usually shorter than four hours, when the balloon bursts.
